Wheel offset explained: poke, flush and tucked

Offset is how far a wheel's mounting face sits from the middle of the wheel, in millimeters. It decides whether the wheel sits tucked under the fender, lines up with it (flush), or sticks out past it (poke).

Tucked, flush and poke

The mounting face is the flat part of the wheel that bolts to the truck. Offset says where it sits.

Three wheels bolted to the same hub. Plus offset: the wheel sits in, under the fender. Zero: centered. Minus offset: the wheel sticks out past the fender. Plus: tucked Zero Minus: poke
Gold: the mounting face, where the wheel bolts to the hub. Dashed: the middle of the wheel. The truck is on the left; the outside is on the right.

Plus offset: the face is toward the outside, so the wheel sits in, under the fender. That is tucked.

Zero: the face is in the middle of the wheel.

Minus offset: the face is toward the inside, so the wheel sticks out past the fender. A lot of minus is poke.

Flush is in between: the tire lines up with the fender. Which offset is flush depends on the truck, the wheel's width and the lift, so there is no one number.

How much a millimeter moves it

About 25 millimeters is one inch. A wheel at −25 mm sits about two inches further out than the same wheel at +25 mm.

Width matters too. A wider wheel at the same offset reaches further out and further in, by half the extra width on each side.

Questions people ask

What is wheel offset?

Offset is how far a wheel's mounting face sits from the middle of the wheel, in millimeters. It decides whether the wheel sits tucked under the fender, lines up with it (flush), or sticks out past it (poke).

What does a negative offset do?

It moves the wheel out, toward the outside of the fender. The more minus, the more it sticks out. Our fit rule marks −24 mm or lower as poke: it usually needs trimming or more lift.

What offset is flush on an F-150?

There is no one number: flush depends on the wheel's width, the tire and the lift. We carry 1,966 wheel sizes that bolt to a 2023 Ford F-150. Most of them run from −18 mm to +30 mm. We confirm your setup on the call.

Will a wheel that pokes out rub?

It can, mostly when you turn or the suspension compresses. A wider tire and a lower offset make it more likely. Trimming or more lift usually fixes it.
